How to Stay Healthy While Staying Home

With all the changes happening in the world recently, most of us are passing more time in our homes. It can feel hard to follow a positive lifestyle when your gym in Des Moines is closed.

You could have transformed into the principal, personal chef, and parent in your home. Or you are working from home for the time being and struggling to set up some normalcy during the day.

In these unusual times, it can be tempting to lay around on the couch, watching the news and mindless shows, and casually dropping your daily workout routine. We may be stuck at home, but we can for sure make ways to preserve a healthy routine! Here are our favorite helpful practices you can work into your new daily routine to stay active, promote your immune system, and maintain momentum toward achieving your wellness targets.

Integrate Home Workouts

One benefit of spending more time at home is the flexibility in your day-to-day routine. Take a look at your routine. Where can you create a few minutes for a short workout? A useful workout doesn’t need to take a long time to be good for you. As long as your heart rate goes up, you will create fat and calorie-burning perks! Start with our 12-minute home fitness class you can work on anytime, anywhere!

Involve Your Kids in Your Workout

The pools may not be open, but there are still many ways to incorporate fun things your kids will enjoy. Because being active isn’t just for adults! Here are some of our preferred fun (and free!) ways the whole family can stay healthy together:

  • Take a nice, long walk
  • Take a frisbee outside in the sunshine (hello Vitamin D!)
  • Go for a bike ride or roller skate adventure
  • Make a floral arrangement with your family’s blossoms
  • Play ball in the yard
  • Find your sidewalk chalk and create a driveway mural
  • Have a dinner cooking match up
  • Turn on the tunes and have a dance party

Plan Healthy Meals

Are you doing your best to avoid shopping for groceries? That works! This is the time to make new things in the kitchen and use your favorite canned goods and frozen foods. With the kiddos on break, full workdays, and the usual household chores, keep your breakfasts, lunches, and dinners straightforward this summer.

At FXB, we make good nutrition uncomplicated for our members. Use your chosen protein source from the freezer, find a carb for a side, and incorporate some healthy fat. And there you have it: a healthy dinner with no fuss. (And if it’s your fun day, pick up a pizza and relax!)
